BARONE DI VILLAGRANDE

catania, sicilia

We believe that the enviorment that surrounds us is the most precious heritage that we possess and working with full respect towards its delicate balance has always been our aim. Our intervention is limited to assisting the plants first and than the grapes in an emotional journey.

The wines that come to life in our cellar are expressions of their terroir, the vines and the vintage.

We are likewise aware that mankind, with his work and his choices are by his skillful leading, is capable with nature as his accomplice, of unique and delicious creations. In the elegance and the fragrance of our wines, is concealed our experience, our land and our pride.

etna rosso

This red comes from a vineyard perched at a 700-metre altitude on the slopes of Etna, a volcanic terroir that has been gaining a lot of attention. Barone di Villagrande has been making wine there since 1727. Black cherry ruby with black reflections and cherry rim with slight hints of orange. The bouquet is elegant, with brambly red berry fruit supported by deft greenish vegetal accents. Deft and quite harmonious. On the palate it’s bright, with lively crushed cherry fruit supported by moderate mineral acidity, and by tannins that have a warm rather dusky burr, and flow into a fairly long crushed cherry finish with a pleasingly bitter mineral underpinning that gives way to vegetal tannins as the fruit fades. Considerable depth and elegance, and will work very well with red meats. Much more about finesse than power.
